AHQ Tours: 2001-2008

Our 2000-2001 Season started with a tour that included Finland and
France. We had a great time while in Finland at the "Lieksa Brass
Week". While we were there we heard great performances by Markus
Maskunnity (who also performed the Casbah of Tetuoan with us at Koli
Hill), many talented young horn players as part of the horn competition
as well as Brassissimo from Vienna.

Here we are during the dress rehearsal of the Schumann Konzertstuck,
accompanied by the Estonian National Orchestra. (The images from Lieksa
come courtesy the Lieksa Brass Week and Annika Rauhala.)

After Finland we travelled to Paris. While there we had a chance to
relax too.

Joining us in our outdoor concert at the Cité de la Musique was Lionel
Renoux (on the left just in front of Charlie.)

After the concert we posed with Lionel for this picture at the main
entrance to the Cité.

In early March we had the chance to play three concerts in our first
trip to mainland China. Our first stop was in Shanghai, where we had a
chance to visit the Yuan Lew Gardens. Or at least I think that is what
it was called- can some one help me here?

From Shanghai it was to Beijing, here we are in front of the gate to the
Forbidden City.

Our sight seeing took us inside the Forbidden City to the Imperial
Gardens.

Sadly our trip came to an end, one last photo of our trip!

In March we visited the University of Central Arkansas for the Mid-West
Horn Workshop. Here, Kerry is discussing the tempos of his
"Introduction & Main Event" with the conductor of the
Conway Symphony, John Roscigno.

Our spring tour of the American Mid-West continued in Wisconsin. In
Steven's Point we had the chance to relax with Pat Miles and Jim
Decorsey and enjoy a wonderful Mexican meal.

Our performance in Bunkyo Civic Hall was recorded for TV Broadcast. The
Gold backdrop is a traditional Japanese theater tool, more commonly
associated with weddings - you can imagine we were often ribbed for
using it. The acoustical advantage it provided, especially on large
stages was, however, not to be turned down!

Our thanks to Genro Hara, who put together a memorable tour for us!

Here we are at the Vietnam Memorial overlooking near Umatac Bay, Guam.

Our Open-Air concert on Guam gave us reason to put on some local attire!

At the beginning of April, we had a recital and masterclass at the
Hillehorntagge, Hille, Germany.

Kaiserslautern, Germany.

In January we were guests of Jeff Snedeker, at the Northwest Regional
Horn Workshop at Central Washington University in Ellensburg.

The horn quartet "Cortet" (from Pacific Lutheran University in
Puyallup, WA) won the quartet competition at this workshop, the members
took time to browse our table.

The AHQ took some time to try out Jim Decker's IVASI system, reading Don
Juan by Richard Strauss.

In February, we had the opportunity to both share our thoughts on
ensemble playing during a masterclass, as well as perform a recital at
the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Our host was professor Doug
Hill.

The 35th IHS Horn Symposium was held at the Indiana University School of
Music, in Bloomington, Indiana. At the gala concert we performed along
with other guest artists Eric Terwilliger, Andre Cazalet and Stephan
Jezierski.

In July we made another CD, this time featuring works for four horns and
Orchestra. We recorded this CD with the Sinfonia Warsovia of Warsaw
Poland, under the direction of Dariusz Wisniewski.

In August we made a trip to central Europe, our first stop on this tour
was in Bratislava, Slovakia.

After Bratislava, we were in Brno, Czech Republic, with concerts in the
Spielberk with the Brno State Philharmonic.

In January the AHQ travelled to the southeastern US for concerts in Florida. In Orlando Charlie met up with
an old friend and colleague, Bob Moore. Bob was previously the principal horn in Bonn, coincidentally Geof's predecessor
there.

At a masterclass in the Rogers Room of Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, Kerry explains some of the finer points of
ensemble playing.

In Orlando, Kerry discovers some neat headwear at the First United Methodist Church.

In March the AHQ travelled to Milano, Italy for some performances with the Pomerigi Musicali. We discover a poster advertising
our performance.

Again in Milano, in front of the famous "La Scala" opera house.

the Budapest Fesitval Horn Quartet and Kristina Mascher to perform Turner's "Take 9 Fanfare".

The AHQ enjoys a japanese meal with Frank Lloyd and Hermann Baumann.

In August the AHQ performed at the 2nd Melbourne International Festival of Brass. Our concert included a rousing performance
of Thomas Müller's Concerto Asssurdo featuring Barry Tuckwell as the solo horn!

Relaxing after hours in the Cleo Bar with Barry Tuckwell and Kristina
Mascher.

In October the Quartet was in Las Vegas as Guest Artists of the 2nd Western Horn
Sympsoium at UNLV.

In November on the same tour we also spent some time on the east coast. Here we are at a
masterclass held at SUNY in Purchase.

We also had an afternoon as guests of the US Army Field Band at West Point, NY.

In January, Heather, David, Kristina and Kerry relax at Camp Tontonzona.

In April the AHQ also played a short recital in Lautenbach, Germany. After the concert Geof's son Laurie poses with some of the
members of the AHQ.

The Abteikirche in Otterberg, Germany, where the AHQ performed on June 4, 2005.

A typical picture of the AHQ, this time inside the Abteikirche.

In June the AHQ was in Poligny, France. Here Charlie Putnam shares some wisdom with one of the students at our masterclass there.

The AHQ poses with our host for the concert and masterclasses in Poligny, hornist Pierre Clement-Gruel.

In January the the Quartet travelled to Cape Town in South Africa. We played two concerts there but we also did a fair amount of
sight seeing. Here we are at Cape Point.

Kerry and Kristina tied the knot while on this trip. Here is the happy couple on their way to the ceremony which was
held in a small brick chapel.

After Kerry and Kristina's wedding we were treated to a safari trip at Fairy Glen, a game preserve about an hour outside
of Cape Town, South Africa.
